I haven't posted about my shopping trips lately. I am hot and cold when it comes to couponing/saving, it just depends on how much time I have, but I think I did pretty well this week.
At Publix I bought $132.79 worth of groceries and paid $71.94. That is a savings of 46%! I have yet to make it to the 50% mark, but I always buy things that are not on sale or things that I don't have coupon for, like produce. Still, not too shabby!
I went to Kroger on Thursday and saved 47%. I can't remember the total since I threw away the receipt but I think I spent around $29 out of pocket.
I just placed a Vineyard Vines order for little Jimmy. They were having their Whale of a Sale and then an extra 25% off. I bought a few things for this year (since it is summer until October!) and next. I think I saved over 50%. Fifteen dollar polo shirts and $16 dollar shorts. I ordered enough to qualify for FREE shipping too!

Team Edward...or Jacob?
I have been reading A LOT lately. The past 3 weeks my mind has been living in the world of Forks, Washington getting to know Bella and her vampire and werewolf friends. The Twilight books have been out for a while and once they were referenced in the Supreme Court confirmation for Justice Kagan as to whether she was Team Edward or Jacob (who found the question rather silly) I decided it is a part of popular culture and I must know what it is all about. I've read Twilight, New Moon and Eclipse. I've watched the New Moon movie. I wanted to watch the Twilight movie but couldn't find it! It wasn't On Demand and there are not any rental movie places anymore and I didn't really want to watch it on my computer. I hope to get a copy just to complete the whole experience. I'm going to borrow Breaking Dawn and hope to take it to the beach in a few weeks. I really have been enjoying them and glad I decided to see what the fuss is all about.
We had book club on Tuesday and we discussed Shutter Island. Great book and we all enjoyed it. Our next pick is The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls and I have heard so many wonderful things about the book so can't wait to pick that one up. I don't think I will get this one from the library since everyone in the book club is already on the waiting list! Alison hosted a Mexican night and it was yummy! We decided to enact a rule to give everyone an incentive to finish the book. The rule is that if you did not read the book then you have to host the next time, even if it is not your turn.

Tybee
The late afternoon, around 5 pm, is my favorite time at the beach. It isn't as hot or crowded and sunsets are always pretty! We went to Tybee Island yesterday with the Kelley fam for a little bit. Tybee is only 30 minutes away so worth the trip even if you stay for just an hour. Tybee was even named America's Healthiest Beach.
We had a great time swimming in the surf and playing in the sand. Cecilia liked to eat the sand... that should be interesting later!

Jimmy. Poor thing, I never let him get any sun. Those rash guard shirts are the best! I hope he wears them forever!

Friday Nights at the Pool
Our neighborhood pool has Friday night dinners during the summer. We've gone several times and always have a great time and end up seeing lots of friends and neighbors. The pool is a less than 5 minute golf cart ride from the house and it is so nice to go in the evening and not have to worry about the heat and sunscreen. It is still hot, but at least not as hot as it is during the day! Tonight was Baked Ziti night and it was yummy. Of course, Jimmy never eats "basketti" when I make it but he crushed a whole plate of ziti at the pool!
Cecilia sat in her seat for almost two hours! Give the girl some food and drink and she is happy!

Cecilia and Jimmy
Yesterday was just one of those days that didn't go as planned...but you just gotta roll with it, right? Cecilia was 9 months on the 12th and I have been meaning to get her picture all week. Yesterday was the day and I wanted to get a pic in my favorite outfit for her. Unfortunately, after she woke up from her nap she was soaked...so much for the outfit and that is why there is a little naked baby below!
What a month it has been for our sweet Cecilia. She is full blown crawling, pulling up on everything and even walking around furniture. She is starting to imitate what we do so if we clap she will clap and if we bat our eyes she will bat hers. She has 3 teeth with a fourth coming soon (two bottom, one top) and we call her our little "snaggle-tooth." She is starting to eat more table food and so far likes eggs, chicken, strawberries, bananas, cheerios, crackers, watermelon, peas just to name a few.

Jimmy 9 months (August 2007)
Jimmy had his first camp this week. It was a preschool camp at our church and he loved it! His camp teacher was the same teacher he had for preschool last year so he was a little confused as to why the rest of his buddies were not there. He kept saying "but there is only one Jimmy." He eats PB&J and bagels and cream cheese like they are going out of style. He still loves orange juice and of course anything sweet! He refers to things by their shapes sometimes. He likes "rectangle chocolates" (3 Musketeers) and "hexagon" crackers (Wheat Thins). He is fascinated with his shadow and always points it out when he sees it and likes to make shadow puppets on the wall in his room before bedtime. He continues to take swim lessons and keeps improving. He is so loving and sweet to his baby sister but doesn't like it when she plays with his toys. We always tell him to give her something else to play with and he finds one of her "baby" toys. He is keenly aware of what is for baby and what is for big boys and he clearly is a BIG BOY!
He is also big into making funny faces. He was dancing around and sticking his tongue out and wanted me to take a picture and then he always says "let me see." He will never know about having to take pictures, send the film off to be developed and then anxiously waiting for the pictures to arrive!

Good times
I couldn't resist posting this picture. We've had this pic in a drawer for a long time and we always look at it to see how much weight Jimmy has lost. Since this picture Jimmy has lost 40-50 pounds! Amazing!
Another reason that I took this picture out is because it brought back some fun memories of my bachelorette party here in Savannah 9 years ago! In the picture from L-R is Jimmy, Jason, Maria and Yvonne (Maria's sister). As I have said before, we have wonderful friends and this includes Maria and Jason and their family. They moved away shortly after this pictures was taken and then made their way back to Savannah two years ago. We've gotten to know their extended families and enjoy the opportunity to see them when they are in town. The reason I was thinking about it is because Yvonne is in town this week visiting Maria and we were talking about what a fun night we all had at Savannah Smiles, a dueling piano bar. Are those places popular any more? It was a big hit in Savannah 9 years ago but sadly I have no idea if it is still even there!

Make Mine Virginia Wine
Wine...a bright spot! My parents just got back from a trip to VA. My brother sent me a bottle of viognier from North Gate Vineyard in Purcellville. My parents brought me several bottles of chard and pinot grigio from Barboursville Vineyard near Charlottesville.
Definitely cracking a bottle tomorrow once my paper is turned in and the summer session is over!

A Fun 4th of July
We had a great long weekend! Jimmy took some time off of work so we had lots of fun with family and friends.
I don't have a lot of energy to do a long recap. I have a final paper due tomorrow for school. I am not feeling this one. I am getting flashbacks to undergrad and all I want to do is just turn it in and hope that I at least get a C...though a C won't really cut it for grad school. So I am hoping for a B.
I am also a little depressed because I was looking back at pics when Jimmy was 9 months old and I was already back to my pre-pregnancy weight and I still have 10 pounds to go...*sigh.* And no summer vacation this year :( but looking forward to our annual Disney trip in January.
To top it all off, I don't have a guest bath right now. We are getting the bathroom tiled and it is halfway done, the door is off the hinges, there is a toilet on my screened porch, and saran wrap covering the sewage drain. Freddie D our painter (I liken him to Elden from Murphy Brown, I feel like he is here all the time!) came today to give us an estimate for the bathroom and will come back next week once the bathroom is done and put back together. I wonder if I will ever own a house that doesn't always need some kind of work or updating!
So I will just leave you with a few pics. They certainly make my day brighter!

Swing Set
For the past couple of weeks I have been on a mission to find Jimmy a playset. To build your own it would cost about $1000 and some of the nicer ones run close to $2500 or more. Sorry folks, that is just not in the budget. I would rather take a vacation for a week with the kids than spend that much on a playset. My focus then turned to Craigslist. I found a nice set that was only a year old for $650 and was over $2300 new. It was a deal, but the guy was moving in a week and we would have had to go about an hour away, take it apart, haul to our house and then put back together. We nixed that idea too.
The previous owners of our house had a nice porch swing in the backyard. It had a sturdy wooden frame and Jimmy and his dad had the idea to just take the porch swing down and then install two swings. Waa-laa! We have a swing set and it cost less than $100 and was constructed in less than hour, with no cuss words or extra trips to Home Depot! While it doesn't have the fancy tower, twirly slide, or rock climbing wall, it doesn't matter because little Jimmy loves it! We might try to add a slide later, but for now, this "new" swing set will be hours of fun for Jimmy and Cecilia!
