Weekend in Richmond

I spent this past weekend in Richmond visiting my college friend Heather. Heather is getting married in August and I am not going to be able to make it to the wedding so I decided to book a last minute trip to Richmond (booked my flight the week before!) and spend the weekend in Richmond.

I got up bright and early for my 630am flight and got into Richmond around 10am. I was able to visit Jimmy's cousin Wynn and kids before they were heading to NC for the weekend and Heather and I had a yummy lunch at Can Can in Carytown. Reminded me a little bit of Balthazar in NYC. Heather and Aaron made a yummy dinner and my favorite was the fresh flounder that Aaron had caught.

Saturday April came into town from Baltimore and it was so good to see her! It had been a long time...maybe 8 years, though it is crazy how it really didn't seem that long ago! We spent the afternoon at the bridal store trying on shoes with Heather's wedding dress and then that evening Heather and Aaron had a couples shower. I got to see another college friend, Emily at the shower as well. We lived on the same hall our first year at UVA. That morning we had gone to the neighborhood coffee shop and I ran into a guy that I went to high school with and lived a few doors down from me in Hamilton. Small world! I love those random encounters and they hardly ever happen to me in Savannah.

Sunday I slept in!! It was so nice! We all lounged around and then did a few more errands to help with Heather's wedding planning. I headed to the airport around 5 and headed back to Savannah. It was such a fun weekend!

Just finished...

Picked this up at the Richmond airport on Sunday (weekend recap coming soon!) and finished it yesterday. The Kite Runner is definitely one of my all-time faves and I also just finished Three Cups of Tea. I definitely enjoyed A Thousand Splendid Suns but not as good as Kite Runner, in my opinion. I did enjoy the history lesson (though, I use that loosely, since it is fiction after all) and it even compelled me to do a little more research on the history of Afghanistan. So complicated! Could hardly keep it all straight!

Big Boy Bed!

Jimmy decided yesterday that he didn't want to sleep in his crib at my parents house for naptime but instead he said "I want to sleep right there (or there-yere, in his little southern accent). He slept for a while and then he woke himself up by falling out. Today, my parents are putting up the guard rails. Of course, he also has his trusty "meek" (blanket) and pass.

Time to start thinking about his big boy room at home!

Weekend Recap.

It was a lazy, but nice weekend. Thursday and Friday were a little rainy so no pool and we were going a little stir crazy. Probably watched too much tv, but managed to get out to Storytime at the library and play some.

Friday evening and Saturday the weather was fabulous. Hardly any humidity. Couldn't believe that it was Savannah in July! We got some yard work done on Saturday, but the little that I did, just picking some weeds, I felt like a mack truck ran over me last night and today. Yard work is out until after the first of the year! I let Jimmy water the plants which is just playing in the house and getting completely soaked but he had fun.

I finished my summer school course today and turned in my last paper and discussion and I am contemplating taking another course in the fall, even though I am due in October. It is online and I can likely work ahead and taking just on class has been more than manageable, but at the same time I think I might have crazy, pregnant, hormonal mom syndrome so might have to think about that one a little bit more.

I booked a last minute trip to see Heather in Virginia for one of her showers. Won't be able to make it to her wedding in Hatteras, NC as I will be super prego by then so decided on Thursday to see if I could find a reasonable last minute fare, I did and I am booked! I am excited to be getting away for the weekend, as that won't be possible for a while!

Also, trying to finish up Three Cups of Tea for book club. Almost done!

Back to work tomorrow!

Happy 4th of July!!

Our neighbors planned a fireworks show so we went over to watch. Jimmy had a fun time playing with the girls but once the first firework was lit, he didn't like it and was ready to go home!! Good thing we didn't go downtown for the fireworks this year!

Back from the Beach

We just got back today from a week at the beach in Ponte Vedra, Florida. We had a great time with Jimmy's parents and his sister Ginny, her husband Marty and my adorable 10 month old niece Amelia. We just spent the week relaxing, hanging out on the beach, going to the pool. At first, little Jimmy wasn't too keen on the beach, not really wanting to go down to the beach or even go to the swimming pool but he eventually warmed up and liked playing in the water with daddy, playing in the sand and flying a kite. He even got to touch a baby hammerhead shark that a fisherman caught. So brave! We also visited the Jacksonville Zoo and Jimmy loved the elephants. Jungle Book is currently one of his favorite movies and he loves acting and singing the elephant march scene. He also liked riding the train and whenever the whistle blew he would yell "all aboard!" They had a carousal and he loved riding the "merry go down" or "horsey go down." There was also a park in St. Augustine that he had a merry go round and a great shady playground as well. Whenever we ask him about the beach he says "that was fun!"

This was the best family photo we could get. Oh well, better than nothing!
