My Baby's Got Sauce...

G. Love and the Special Sauce...never heard of them until my first year of college and my college-buddy, Devon introduced me to his blues, hip-hop alternative sound. I thought his songs were kind of silly and fun and Devon and I even went to Trax (of the DMB fame) to see him in Charlottesville...oh about 13 years ago!



SCAD hosted it's annual New Alumni Festival in Forsyth park last night. In honor of new alumni they put on a free concert in the park with some headlining acts. This year it was Crash Kings, Galactic (great brass band from NoLa) and G. Love. It is free and open to the community. This was also one of the first concerts in the new band shell at Forsyth. It was a great time!

I was out of town Thurs-Sat last week and Jimmy took the kiddos to Wal-Mart and got this Chinese fighting fish. Jimmy decided to name him Pinocchio, after one of his favorite movies. Half the fun of getting the fish was wondering what Jimmy would name it (or is it him or her??).



I've been a little absent lately. We now have a 7 month ON THE MOVE!! I found her standing up in her crib this morning for the first time! She is also cutting her two bottom teeth. School started this week too but I will find time for more blogging in the coming weeks.

SCAD Fashion Show

Maria had an extra ticket to the matinee performance of the SCAD Fashion Show yesterday and I was the lucky recipient. This was my first show in the 10 years (yes, 10 years in June!) I have worked at SCAD. It was amazing and I loved recognizing several of the students that I have worked with during the admission process. It is wonderful to see their accomplishments as they are ready to graduate. Check out highlights from the fashion show HERE.

Diane Von Furstenberg was the special guest. I am by no means a fashion guru but the wrap dress is GENIUS!

After the show we went for drinks and apps, along with our co-worker Jen and her husband, to EOS wine bar. I couldn't find a website for them or I would have provided a link! It was a lovely afternoon!

Today at Publix

The other fishing widows and I are getting together tonight. I headed to Publix for some chicken fingers, some of their BOGO deals and, more importantly, WINE, and Jimmy (who NEVER takes naps anymore) fell asleep on the way there. I contemplated turning around but knew this was my only window to go today so I sat him in the cart (or buggy as they say in the south) and he put his blanket down and went right to sleep. He slept the whole time I was in the store and I transferred him to the car and then to his bed. So funny.

Cecilia-7 months and last days of school for Jim Jim

We are ALMOST crawling! She is up on her hands and knees and rocking back and forth. Currently, she is doing a little inch worm move to go forward and will scoot herself backwards with her feet. If I put her down on the ground to play she is all over the place! The other day she got herself halfway under the couch. She is sitting in her booster seat to eat and can pick up the puffs and put them in her mouth (or at least most of them!). She is still wearing a size 3 diaper but they are getting pretty tight. Once we finish up this pack of diapers we are moving up to 4! Those cute little legs need a little more room! She is such a sweet and loving baby and she brings joy to our family every single day.





Jimmy-7 months



Our sweet little Jim Jim is turning into a little boy right before our eyes. Always wants to wear his tennis shoes so he can "run around" on the playground with his buds at school. Whenever I ask him what he did at school it is always "we ran around on the playground" and played "monster." When he gets home he dumps out half the sand from the sandbox from his shoes. He loves his baby sister and we love watching him be so sweet and kind to her. Tuesday will be the last day of school for him and then he is out for the summer! Pool time! I just signed him up for private swimming lessons two days a week at the Acquatic Center.

Gone Fishin' in the Keys

I wish I was talking about me, but Jimmy and his dad spent last week fishing and relaxing in the Keys with family friends. The trip sounded amazing and I am officially jealous. Longtime friends of his parents have a boat and they had it in the Keys for several weeks. Jimmy and his dad drove down on Wednesday and came back on Sunday. They caught dolphin, wahoo (coincidence?) and a baracudda. He brought the wahoo home and we have it in the freezer. Cooking it will be an adventure for another day.

Show Us Your Life-Names

If anyone ever reads this regularly or they hear me talk about my blog world, then you know that I love me some Kelly's Korner. Today is another "Show us Your Life" and it is about names.

Our children's names may not be very "creative" but they sure do have a lot of meaning. It was important to us to pick a name that reflected our family and I think that it will mean a lot to Jimmy and Cecilia to know they were named after family.

Pretty easy to figure out that my husband Jimmy is the junior and his dad is senior. It gets confusing. His dad was always Big Jimmy and Jimmy was little Jimmy. Now our Jimmy is little Jimmy, Jimmy is big Jimmy and his dad is Papa. To make things even more confusing, his sister is Ginny and his mom's name is Sister. No, she is not a former nun (see below for explanation). I was adamant about not having another Jimmy. I thought James would be good or Jamie. Those are all good names but they just didn't seem to fit. So, we have another Jimmy. While Jimmy may be pretty common in our family, I don't know another little boy named Jimmy, so it actually is pretty unique I think.

I think I may have explained her name in the post I did about her arrival. Cecilia is my grandmother on my dad's side. Cecilia Ungarsky Parr. She was Slovakian. She married my grandfather, Joseph Parr who was Hungarian. They were both born in Cleveland, Ohio and died there as well. Louise was my grandmother on my mom's side, Jimmy's grandmother on his mom's side and is his mom's name as well. His mom is Mary Louise Cole. She is the middle child of 5 and the first girl. Her older brothers called her "Sister" and the name stuck. I can see how that could happen. We always call Cecilia "baby sister." My grandmother is Louise Summerford Rafferty (Dothan, Alabama) and Jimmy's grandmother is Louise Parks Cole (Newnan, Georgia).

Mom's Day at School

In honor of Mother's Day, today was Mom's day at school. Jimmy and his classmates sang 5 or 6 songs for all of the moms. I made a rookie mom mistake and forgot my video camera but I did take several still pictures. This was my first "program" and I definitely will remember my camera from now on! The children were so cute and they sang all of their songs so well!

The past few days...

I wrapped up my graduate class on Friday. My last paper was due on Saturday morning and I had to work on Saturday so I submitted it on Friday afternoon. I feel pretty good about the class. My performance has been pretty consistent and unless I bombed this paper I should get an A.

Saturday I worked an event and had the opportunity to spend the day with some amazing professors. One sound design professor had worked with John Lennon and George Harrison and worked on the sitcom Mad About You, just to name a few things. The other professor has many editing credits to his name, most notably, he worked on the movie Amadeus. I spend so much time focused on just one thing that it is nice to get out of the office and experience a different side of things.

We had dinner Saturday night with Josh and Eliza at Chili's. We decided to take a cut from church on Sunday and I ran around town to Publix, Kroger and CVS trying to get all the best deals.

A new neighbor moved in next door so I baked (okay faux baked, but at least they weren't slice and bake) some cookies and took them over.

We cooked ribs for the first time and they were yummy. I have always been a little intimidated by ribs but they were so easy to make and so good! We used Corky's BBQ sauce and it was fabulous.

We ended the weekend with family golf cart ride around the island!

I have been super bad about taking pictures lately. Hope to have a few up next week.
